Avril Matthews has enjoyed a multi decade career in the tourism and hospitality space.
Beginning her career as a bartender in Toronto, Avril went on to explore other tourism opportunities in both privately owned and major corporate chain hotels. Avril has enjoyed many roles within the hotel industry including, duty manager, front office manager, director revenue management, and director of marketing & sales where she oversaw a large sales and catering teams and multi-million dollar budgets.
In 2017 Avril accepted the position of Director of British Columbia for the large international communications and marketing firm, Beattie Tartan. Here Avril specialized in reputation management, corporate crisis management, event planning and media training in a broad range of business sectors.
Today Avril is an independent contractor with a host of clients in the tourism sector. Her lust for travel has brought her to countries like, Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Ireland, France, England and Mexico. Now as the Canadian Representative for the Jordan Tourism Board Avril has led many familiarization tours of both travel advisors and travel media to one of her favourite countries, Jordan.
Avril was born in Newfoundland and has lived her way across Canada and the US and settling in Victoria where she has lived for 24 years.
Avril’s educational background includes The Hotel School, Cornell University where she studied Revenue Management and Financial Management and Business Management at Seneca College Applied Arts and Technology.
