Christian Van Buskirk

Christian Van Buskirk brings over 25 years industry experience in the private and public sectors ranging from marketing and coordinating province-wide tourism initiatives with Tourism British Columbia, to owning and operating a destination marketing organization (DMO) and customer experience management consulting business. Christian has worked with both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations to create and execute marketing and management initiatives in areas including experience management, employability and work-readiness programs, branding and tourism marketing communications.
Christian’s tourism operations’ experience is diverse and includes high customer-contact in the accommodation, transportation and food and beverage industries. Exceptional customer experiences and the relationship between an organization’s competitive strategy and its strong service-oriented employees, drives much of his teaching practice. Having taught SuperHost® for many years and currently delivers a series of experience management workshops, Christian highlights the tremendous opportunities in tourism careers and how employees can become strong assets to the organization through service professionalism practices.
Christian acted as the lead facilitator in previous employment programs including Job Options BC and Worklink Employment Society. Developing and delivering curriculum to help participants move toward satisfying, sustainable careers has been a large part of his corporate and not-for-profit practice.
In his role as Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Victoria’s Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, Christian earned the Award of Excellence in Teaching (2020) and has spent over 3,000 hours in the classroom, teaching a variety of marketing, management and business courses to various levels of University students, ranging from first year through to graduate degree programs.
Christian’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Commerce in Management, Master of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship, Certification in Adult and Continuing Education (C.A.C.E.) and Provincial Instructor Diploma (PIDP).
